PENGARUH TEMPERATUR DAN WAKTU AUSTENISASI TERHADAP STRUKTUR MIKRO DAN KEKERASAN BESI COR NODULAR FCD 45

Abstract


Nodular cast iron has microstructure in the form of nodular or spherelike graphite and ferritic or pearlitic matrix. To obtain the better mechanical properties of nodular cast iron can be done by austempering process so that the new material known as austemperd ductile iron. Mechanical properties produced from austempering are affected by austenitizing process parameters, i.e, austenitizing time and temperature. The aim of this research is to study the effects of austenitizing time and temperature on the ADI hardness. The austenitizing temperature used in this research  is 900°C and 1000°C. At those austenitizing temperature, the holding time is varied, i.e, for 60, 90 and 120 minutes. Then the specimens are austempered at temperature 300°C for 60 minutes.

This research indicates that the higher the austenitizing  temperature, the higher ADI hardness. Meanwhilel in the short holding time, the hardness is relatively high and tend to decrease gradually with austenitizing time. The highest hardness (441.8 BHN ) is obtained from the specimen austenitized at temperature 1000°C for 60 minutes its hardness increase up to 151.12% ). The hardness (326.8BHN) is obtained from the specimen austenitized at temperature 900°C for 120 minutes (its hardness increase up to 85.76%.).
